The Director of Coaching for the BTSA is Tony Niccoli and the Head Staff Coach is Jerry Shutway. Both have served as Directors of Coaching for Broadview Hts. Soccer. Other staff coaches include Brian Stucky, Josh Thacker and Jeff Kennard. This staff combines professionalism and experience with knowledge and enthusiasm. All have coaching certifications and continue to keep abreast of modern training methods and changes in the international game.

Coach Tony Niccoli was born and raised in Colorado. After graduating from Pueblo Catholic High School, he earned a B.A. Degree in Philosophy and History from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Two years later, in 1970, he was awarded a M.Ed. Degree in Secondary Education Social Studies from Ohio University.
He began teaching that year in the Brecksville-Broadview Hts. Junior High and was moved to the High School after 10 years. Mr. Niccoli has taught all of the social studies courses at all levels from grades 7-12. In 2001, after 31 years in the district, he retired from the classroom. In that span he was considered one of the best teachers in the District and was voted the Favorite Teacher 17 times in his 22 year tenure at the High School. He also was selected 5 times by the students in the National Honor Society to deliver the Induction Speech.
After serving 3 seasons as the JV coach, Coach Niccoli assumed duties as the Head Varstiy coach in 1973. Over the next 25 seasons, he amassed a record of 335 wins, 114 losses and 44 ties including 4 State Championships (1975, 1981, 1992 and 1993) with a runner-up State Championship in 1976. Coach Niccoli has received many awards for his coaching and was a charter member of the Ohio Soccer of Fame, inducted in 1992.
Coach Niccoli received a USSF “C” coaching license in 1975, a “B” license in 1976 and attended the “A” course in 1982. In 1991, he was awarded an Advance National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He received a National Youth License in 1994 and also has a State Goalkeeping Diploma and a Regional Goalkeeping Diploma.
Coach Niccoli has been teaching state coaching courses since 1978. In that same year, he was appointed to the State Staff of the newly established Olympic Development Program. Currently he is the Assistant Director of Coaching for Ohio North and oversees the coaching aspects of the ODP program.
From 1977 until 1993, Coach Niccoli served as the volunteer Director of Coaching for the Broadview Hts. Travel Program where he wrote Coaching Manuals and provided Coaching Clinics.
Jerry Shutway brings to the Club a long history of developing players for the high school, Olympic development program (ODP), and collegiate levels of play. He holds a coaching license with the United States Soccer Federation as well as a NSCAA goal-keeping license. Jerry has been a staff coach of the ODP State select program since 1980.
